In case you missed it …
The former heads of MSNBC and CNN defended not covering Hunter Biden’s laptop during the 2020 elections. Griffin said that Hunter Biden was never arrested and “I don’t think it’s a main story until that happens.”
Covid vaccine critic Alex Berenson says Pfizer board member Scott Gottlieb flagged one of his tweets and got him banned on Twitter.
The chairman of the National Committee for Religious Freedom says JPMorgan Chase closed their account without providing a reason. The bank says it would reopen the account if the organization provides a list of their donors and preferred political candidates.
Dear Friends,
Parler began as a great concept, and it almost made it.
After years of Silicon Valley taunting conservatives, saying, “If you don’t like our platforms, go build your own,” the founders of Parler did just that. It became one of the few places conservatives didn’t worry about getting canceled for expressing an opinion.
Then, after the Jan. 6 riots, Silicon Valley murdered it. The app was pulled from Apple app and Google Play stores and Amazon pulled its web hosting as well. After months offline, when Parler got back up and running it became a ghost town. The tech world moves fast and people had moved on.
The Kanye Takeover
On Monday, Parler announced rapper Kanye West (who goes by Ye) agreed to buy the company. Hopefully that deal actually happens.
His purchase would undoubtedly renew interest in the app and widen its user base.
Kanye has a Kardashian-style penchant for making news, both good and bad. He’s a brilliant artist who’s a musician, producer, and fashion designer. He has spoken out in favor of free speech, baffled his former friends by supporting Trump, and caused a kerfuffle earlier this month when he wore a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt to Paris Fashion Week. He went on Tucker Carlson’s show, which caused a minor liberal meltdown.
He also made social media posts that were blasted by most people as anti-Semitic and beyond his normal kooky statements, followed by the locking of his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Another billionaire, another conservative social site
Despite his constant drama, or perhaps fueled by it, Kanye West has gone far beyond musical success and has built a clothing-based empire that Bloomberg estimates is worth over $6 billion. Yes, with a “b”, which would make him far wealthier than our last president.
It’s part of an encouraging trend. Entrepreneurs like Musk, Trump and now West, are seeing both financial opportunity and a freer voice in helping these platforms. Their success will be a vital step to break the Silicon Valley grip on communication.
Our news and information systems are becoming more fractionalized, and are slowly — too slowly — moving towards an ecosphere that more closely resembles our ideological diversity, and not just the traditional liberal narrative. Conservatives will have more options.
That won’t fix all of our media problems, but it’s a start.
