In case you missed it …
CBS News was called out for claiming airplane turbulence is caused by climate change. One Twitter user commented, “That's just weather.”
TikTok’s top U.S. lobbyist refused to acknowledge the CCP’s atrocities against Uyghurs when asked about the subject five times during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Stacey Abrams’ $100 million Georgia campaign splurged on a ‘swag truck’ and TikTok ‘hype house.’ They’re now more than $1 million in debt.
Dear Friends —
Gone are the days when we could casually dismiss censorship in other countries as a byproduct of dictatorship or foolishness. These days we need to pay attention, because it’s sometimes a preview of coming attractions.
Today’s red flag: Mexico, which may bar a Congressman from re-election because he asked a question about transgender men.
Mexico has a law requiring an equal number of men and women in Congress, and politician Gabriel Quadri objected to the fact that some of the seats reserved for women were being taken by men who identified as transgender.
He tweeted his concern that biological women weren’t being offered those seats … and was charged as a “violent political offender.”
He was found guilty, according to a National Review report, and could at any time be deemed ineligible to run for public office again. In a school-like punishment, he’s also being required to apologize and post an announcement of his conviction on Twitter twice a day for 15 days.
He has appealed his case to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and says he’s fighting for the free speech rights of every Mexican.
CNN Español: Worse than their gringo colleagues
Earlier this year Quadri was defending his transgender statements on a live CNN Español debate, when the host interrupted him in full wokester mode and booted him from the show.
"What you're saying reflects the ultra-conservative right here in the United States who don't believe in social inclusion … If you come here to spread your hate speech, this is not the channel. Go to another channel. Go to Tepito Televisión. Technician, take him off the air please."
— CNN Español host Camilo Egaña
Other Threats
Quadri isn’t the only one who has been punished by his government for posting things online. In Finland, a member of Parliament (who was a doctor and grandma to boot) was charged with a hate speech crime that carried a two-year prison sentence. Her crime was to tweet her views on marriage and sexuality.
The National Review also points out that in some countries including Nigeria, you can be sentenced to death for what you post online.
Just like Big Tech execs can censor those they don’t like, around the world governments are targeting people who post ideas that don’t fit the preferred narrative.
