Clinging to censorship
Adam Schiff spends his last days in the majority threatening Big Tech companies
In case you missed it …
The CIA sent Biden a letter last year, requesting that some info surrounding the assassination of JFK remain redacted. Although 97% of the documents have been released to the public, several thousand pages have not. Honestly, it looks weirder than if they’d just refused to release anything at all.
The Twitter drama continues: The company unsuspended the journalists who were banned last week. Twitter also walked back a policy that banned links to other social media platforms. Meanwhile, Elon Musk posted a poll asking if he should step down as CEO and vowing to abide by the results. People voted him out, but so far there’s no word on him departing.
Dear Friends,
In an appearance on Sunday’s “State of The Union” on CNN, Adam Schiff threatened Twitter and any other social media company that doesn’t bow to his censorship demands.
Schiff: “[a] big problem right now with social media companies and their failure to moderate content and the explosion of hate on Twitter, the banning of journalists on Twitter.”
He then warned that social media companies may not experience “immunity from responsibility and liability.”
His threats to social media companies are covered in an excellent column by Miranda Devine at the New York Post (no stranger to censorship themselves, of course.)
Devine argues that in his final days in charge of the country’s intelligence agencies, Schiff is desperately trying to shore up the censorship that the left managed to fix across Big Tech companies.
Schiff and other Democrats warned Meta (aka: Facebook) that “Dangerous and unfounded election denial content” had to be dealt with. Devine also pointed out exactly how involved Dem officials were in the policing of speech on these platforms, as we all saw when the Twitter Files were released (more on that tomorrow).
Her article is a thorough, and important, warning on how politicians can induce Big Tech companies to follow their bidding without saying the really incriminating stuff out loud. Check it out here.
