If you’re interested in my take on the Trump trial circus, it’s best to go to experts who understand things much better than I do. It’s the same place I go daily for the most intelligent conservative opinions online: the National Review.
They’re not Trump sycophants by any stretch of the imagination, but they certainly don’t suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome that has afflicted so many. They’re more of a “Trump has serious character problems and sometimes says insane things, but he’s better than the crazies on the left” type of publication. You get thoughtful critiques and principled conservative perspectives.
For me, the best writer there is Andrew C. McCarthy, a former prosecutor who deep-dives into the nuances of the legal cases that now seem to define our national politics. His writings and ability to call out legal nonsense are worth the price of an NR subscription.
If you read his analyses – sometimes it takes me twice to fully understand them – you’ll never lose an argument about any of them. Here’s a great sample of his work, explaining, pre-verdict, all you need to know about the New York records case against Trump. (The NR allows you to read a few articles per month for free.)
Good post-verdict articles by others there include, “Make No Mistake: The Trump Case Was an Unprecedented Application of the Law” and “The Horrendous Trump Verdict”.
To be clear, these aren’t simplistic “Those libtards don’t get it!” pieces by a longshot. Instead, they’re the kind of clear thinking we need now more than ever.
The National Review was started by William F. Buckley – largely considered the father of American conservatism – in 1955. The managing editor now is Judson Berger, a sharp guy who worked for me at FoxNews.com and did a terrific job of running our Washington, D.C., operations.
I don’t get any kickback from this subscription link, which offers a subscription for $1 a week, a 50% discount. I just like them.
If it’s not your speed, no worries. I’ll continue to borrow or steal their better ideas, polish them, and give them to you right here. :)

Ken I have to say - bluntly - this online newsletter of yours is very likely one of the best things out there! I appreciate not only your thinking and your style of communicating on some of the most important topics of the day, but the clarity and objectivity that you present in your writing is just exceptional and nothing less.
The NR generally gives people a few free reads a month.
