1. Rand Paul goes off
Rand Paul eviscerated Dr. Fauci on Fox & Friends:
“I think Fauci deserves culpability and history is going to judge him very poorly because he made the judgment to fund this research. It's dangerous research. He doesn't want to call it gain of function, but most other scientists do call it gain of function in Wuhan in an opaque totalitarian country. And in the end, there was a leak from the lab and millions of people died worldwide. And this didn't happen sort of accidentally.
The leak may have been accident, but the funding wasn't accidental. Tony Fauci actually went around the system. We had set up a system where there's a committee, they're supposed to go before a committee to judge whether this was dangerous and whether it should be funded. Tony Fauci exempted Wuhan from the committee. They never went before the committee. And this is extraordinary.
The committee that was supposed to provide safety and review this, never looked at the research in Wuhan because Tony Fauci gave them exception. So the thing is, yes, he does bear responsibility for maybe one of the worst judgment errors in the history of modern medicine or modern public health to fund this dangerous research.”
2. Elon Musk is a “speciesist”?
Yep, Musk has his prejudices. He’s a speciesist and believes in the moral superiority of humans. This might be funny if one of the people who accused him of speciesism wasn’t a co-founder of Google. Some people out there really do see speciesism as a serious character flaw.
3. The Babylon Bee sues California
Seth Dillon, the founder of the satire site The Babylon Bee, is suing California’s attorney general. Dillon says a 2022 bill meant to regulate social media companies is an unconstitutional censorship law. The Bee has good reason to be nervous – as a satire site, they’ve been censored before for “misinformation” by people who apparently have no sense of nuance or humor.
Agree totally with Paul on Fauci A-Z
Needed
To bad others in Senate wont back him on issues
Prosecute Fauci for these crimes:
Wuhan Virus 2019+
Lockdowns
Mask mandates
Millions killed worldwide by then virus
No leadership
For the $$$$$ only
His crimes= War Crimes Level alone
That California law is silly and unconstitutional, and I'm glad it's being challenged.
Misinformation is a real problem though. We're incredibly lucky to have First Amendment protection, and we CAN use those rights to say whatever we want, but that doesn't mean we SHOULD. Whether false information is intended to be deceptive or satirical, gullible people can fall for it, especially when it's screenshotted or aggregated out of its original context. Remember when Donald Trump fell for a satirical Babylon Bee article? To borrow Ken's words, there are a LOT of unsophisticated news consumers online "who apparently have no sense of nuance or humor."
Social media tends to decontextualize content and distort reality, so maybe the well-meaning folks at the Babylon Bee and The Onion need to think about whether their business model is accidentally harming our political discourse.
