The media discovers the enemy is them
Their search for "threats to democracy" didn't turn out as expected
In case you missed it …
The owner of the computer repair store where Hunter Biden abandoned his laptop is suing Hunter Biden, the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign, Rep. Adam Schiff, CNN, and Politico for defamation.
MSNBC’s Matthew Dowd implies Republicans are like Nazis because they’re upset about inflation.
Elon Musk told prospective investors in his deal to buy Twitter that he planned to get rid of nearly 75% of the social media company’s workers, according to the Washington Post.
Dear Friends –
“Threat to Democracy” is one of the mainstream media’s new catchphrases.
Why? First, it’s a word that engenders fear for the future. If nothing else, the media is good about whipping people up into a fearful frenzy, whether it’s over sharks, the weather, or especially, Republicans.
Second, it plays into the Democrat all-in strategy on the January 6 riots, and the anticipated return of Donald Trump. If people are scared of insurrection and election “denialists”, then that makes a Trump comeback harder.
If you want to see how pervasive the phrase has become, just search for “threat to Democracy” and see headline after headline. It’s kind of fun to see the groupthink in action.
Here are a few related headlines from yesterday’s front pages:
MSNBC: “Exclusive”: Speaker Pelosi: Democracy 'at stake' in 2022 midterms
MSNBC: The Republicans want to end democracy and blow up the economy — and they aren't hiding it
Fox News: MSNBC's Hayes panics: High gas prices place democracy in 'existential peril,' because GOP will win
Heck, even Rob Reiner got the memo:
The New York Times wanted to write a few more stories about The Threat to Democracy™ so they conducted an in-depth poll asking voters about it. And they clearly didn’t expect the results.
When prompted with a list of potential problems, what’s the number one threat Americans see to our Democracy? The “mainstream media.” I kid you not.
How dare we!
These workhorses in the press have spent months … years! … defending America from Donald Trump, Republicans, white supremacists, a coup, the Supreme Court, and the Electoral College. And then we turn around and blame the press!? We must be ingrates.
The Times authors were planning on writing another story and were clearly surprised:
“... only about 17 percent of voters described the threat in a way that squares with discussion in mainstream media and among experts — with a focus on Republicans, Donald J. Trump, political violence, election denial, authoritarianism, and so on.
Instead, most people described the threat to democracy in terms that would be very unfamiliar to someone concerned about election subversion or the Jan. 6 insurrection…”
So, where does this leave us?
First, we should be feeling better that our message of the media meltdown is spreading. We’ve been talking about this for years, and it’s comforting to know that we’re not crazy, and America is seeing the light.
Americans are starting to figure it out, but the media is still in a deep state of denial. Even the Times poll story is a great example of denialism.
The survey also asked people an open-ended question on the “biggest threat.” People were all over the map, but the top answer was government corruption, with 14%. So the Times lead with that and didn’t mention a word about the “mainstream media” topping the results. (Kudos to the Washington Post for reporting the real numbers fairly.)
The first step to fixing a problem is seeing the problem, and more people are realizing it every day.
The media discovers the enemy is them
Desperate people will say anything, to including ridiculous things. "Democracy is over if we lose an election." Uh, no; that's democracy in action. Someone always loses.
Just remember that it is “Their Democracy”. It’s theirs, not ours according to them.
Evil Rat Bastards.
