Come on, the January 6 insurrection was a violent attempt to overturn an election and harm legislators and the vice president. People died, including cops, and the vice president was just feet away from being overrun by a mob that had set up a gallows to hang him. It was nearly the end of our democracy.

The Tennessee protest was a peaceful attempt to draw attention to gun control. Nobody was hurt or threatened. The legislators took it too far with the bullhorn, but really -- this was not January 6.

I disagree with most of this.

It wasn't an attempt to overthrow the government, which is why those 2nd Amendment types didn't have guns, a cop died from a stroke the next day ... the only person actually killed was the gal shot in the neck. I'll show you gallows all the times at protests. It wasn't anywhere close to the end of democracy by a million to one shot.

They wanted to use violence to stop Congress from certifying the results of an election because they wanted the guy who lost to take power. They were chanting "Hang Mike Pence" and they erected a gallows to do just that. That's a textbook overthrow/coup, whether they're using AR-15s or bear spray.

Five January 6 protesters died. The ME said the violence of the protest was a factor in the stroke that killed Sicknick. At least four officers who defended the Capitol have died by suicide.

The protesters in Tennessee went through security, stayed in approved areas and complied with cops. There were no injuries or property damage.

Those are all facts.

Let's do a thought experiment. Imagine if the facts were different and these were both equally violent attempts to overthrow democracy. They would deserve a similar response, right? The elected officials who egged this on would deserve to be kicked out of office, right? Yet the same people who defended Trump from impeachment are calling for the Tennessee legislators to be expelled. Even in our hypothetical scenario, that would be illogical and hypocritical. Given the facts as they are, January 6 being exponentially worse than the Tennessee protest, that position is even more indefensible.
