And with the easy availability of all kinds of crap on the Internet that good parenting wouldn't allow, maybe it's time that parents step up to being responsible parents instead of letting the kids' phones be substitute parents....

You're right, this is a tough one. I'm not a big "ban it" guy either. Keep it off government devices and make clear to folks the privacy risk involved in using the app. But absent hard evidence that Chinese intelligence is using this data to hurt Americans, I'm not sure I'd go further than that.

I'd imagine hard evidence of how they use that day would be an impossible bar, though. It's pretty reasonable to assume the worst, no?

That's a safe assumption. Just not sure it's a high enough bar to ban a business. But I'm persuadable.

It would be cleaner to pass generalized legislation involving privacy and overseas data storage. Then if TikTok violates that law, they're out. Then it's a prescriptive standard that applies to everyone.
