1. Deny the failure

2. Double down on bad policy (it simply wasn’t tried out robustly enough)

3. Blame Trump

4. Any correction at this point destroys our democracy

5. Change the failed policy during election year hoping only some subset of voters take note and get conned.

I get that they’re in a bubble, but I find the lack of common sense amongst the ‘elite’s’ to be alarming. I mean, these people are making policy decisions for cities/companies/ our country and they can’t figure out that defunding the police is a bad idea without trying it first? The mind boggles.

Spot on Ken. There are endless policies which need to be reversed, eliminated or totally re-written.

Very salient points … haven’t such edicts and out of touch ideas coming down from these supposedly high and mighty ivory towers been called “conventional wisdom” in the past?!?

The problem with such conventional wisdom is that nowadays these ideas do not seem to undergo a rigorous vetting and cost/benefit analyses. Other prime examples of the failures of these supposedly new and progressive ideas include … California’s high speed train to nowhere; Portland Oregon’s legalization of hard core drugs; and allowing criminally convicted men to transfer to women’s prisons if they “change” their identification to “female.”

Such stupid ideas seem like they could only come from the bowels of academia faculty lounges in out of touch locales like Berkeley California and Cambridge Massachusetts.

Just even consider the notion of locking up genetic XY male convicts posing as females into a women’s prison. During medieval times criminals were all just thrown in together into dungeons with no separation between the sexes. Women prisoners were easily abused and raped by the stronger male prisoners. This is precisely what ends up occurring in this day and age when these convicts in drag are transferred into women’s facilities.

So, for all the high and mighty proclamations and feel good notions of the progressives who promote and implement such stupid policies, the end result actually becomes regressive as our prisons become something reminiscent of the medieval ages.

Whether it’s called progressivism, liberalism, socialism, or … whatever, these poorly thought out policies and ideas seem to always result in unintended consequences creating further chaos and problems that are worse that what we had to begin with.

Western Civilization in general, and America specifically, need to go back to the tried and true ideas of scientific analyses, cause and effect rationality, and rigorous fact finding to arrive at objective truths. Not your truth, or my truth, or her truth, or his truth. Only the truth … objective truth; self-evident truths as our Founding Fathers cited some almost 250 years ago.

Perhaps then we can all live in and experience a modern day renaissance, through a full restoration of our Divine freedoms and birthrights.

G’day …

All of those are excellent points.

In a way, it illustrates what really differentiates liberal from conservatives. I find the best way to define those groups is "willingness to make changes to fix problems" vs. "warning that the messing with the current system might create more problems than solutions."

It's not entirely accurate, but to me the best way to look at the parties. And in that framework, most desired changes to the system are progressive -- redefining "woman" or legalizing drugs -- with conservatives warning of the unforeseen consequences. The fight between those two ideals and those two parties I believe is at the heart of our political "pendulum" behavior.
